Consultations

H:MC21 is a charity established to counter the unfounded propaganda against homeopathy by informing the public of the facts about homeopathy and its historical and scientific relationship to orthodox medicine.

It will do this through research, publication and campaigning.

In order to find a remedy that is similar to the patient’s state of health, homeopaths need to know as much as possible about what is wrong with a patient, the first consultation about a chronic case is therefore usually at least an hour long, though much less time is needed for accidents and other acute conditions. Questions will not only cover the symptoms which have brought a patient to the homeopath, but other parts of the body, mental and emotional characteristics, preferences and the medical history of the patient and to some extent of their relatives. The purpose of this is to establish the full context of the patient’s state of health and to be able to identify any changes following treatment. Homeopaths were the first to recognise that a person’s illness could not be seen in isolation from its context in time. In homeopathy a particular state of ill-health is not like a photograph, but like a single frame of a film.

Subsequent consultations will generally be much shorter, as they are largely concerned with identifying changes and the causes of those changes. It is important, for example, for the homeopath to make sure which changes are a result of the treatment and which are due to other factors. If there is no change, the homeopath needs to identify whether the remedy was incorrect or whether some other factor has influenced the outcome. Emotional disturbances, dental work or certain foods or drink can affect the action of homeopathic remedies.
