H:MC21 has adopted a different approach to managing its work. Instead of expecting the trustees to run the charity on a day-to-day basis, it has handed this work over to a part-time paid administrator. It is expected that this will enable the routine processes of communication and organisation to be more efficient.
The scale of the work undertaken by H:MC21 has made it increasingly difficult for the trustees to cope with the day-to-day commitment involved. In particular, when there is a need for a rapid response to complex issues which have suddenly arisen, the trustees may not be able to make available the time necessary to deal with these. In recognition of this problem, and after trying to manage it in other ways, the trustees proposed that someone be paid to take on an administrative role.
The trustees felt that such a radical change should be discussed and decided upon by the membership of H:MC21, and so the matter was raised at the AGM. The AGM agreed that the change should be made, and decided that William Alderson should be appointed as the Administrator.
The current trustees, elected at the AGM, will concentrate on a governance role, making sure that H:MC21 acts within its aims and objects, and that it is financially responsible. They will also set policy and determine the primary focus of the charity’s work, so that the Administrator knows what issues to concentrate on.
